I use Bela Bartok's Microcosmos, a series of small, fun, interesting pieces designed for teaching piano, and as students gain musical fluency, I introduce easy classical pieces. I have also used the "Russian method." For adults, I find James Lykes piano method book to be wonderful. For voice students, I often use Clifton Ware's "Adventures in Singing," which includes valuable information, exercises, and a variety of songs. This will enhance dexterity and continued strength as well as develop new fingering capabilities to enable the student towards more advanced songs they like or even want to compose!   Formal teaching material will consist of Faber or Thompson; though if the student prefers Alfred, Bastien or Snell, I can work with these. All of these options are good. For beginning students I prefer to start with "on staff" instead of "off staff." I do not start off with metronomes, but will consider later on with the student where this may be needed (i.e. technical attention to the composer’s original intent, prep for adjudications, desired effect with own creative music, waltz or marching songs, etc.). I began playing tuba, trombone and bass in middle school. I won the grand-prize and special prize in National Youth wind instrument players contest (1985) competition at the age of 19, and made my concerto debut with the State Opera Orchestra later that year. I got my Bachelor degree from Music College in 1985, and Master's Degree from Gnessin Academy of Music - 1990, Moscow, Russia. In 1991-96 I was the Soloist at a State Jazz Orchestra in Moscow.I played with all major jazz musicians of post-Soviet era and frequently toured around Russia, Spain, Finland, Poland, Germany, Israel, Egypt, Greeks, Italy and Switzerland.
