Each student is given a customized lesson plan according to their level, abilities and goals. Music is supposed to be fun. I love to incorporate actually playing music as much as possible and keep exercises to a minimum. This keeps lessons fresh and gives them a sense of progression. I have been teaching private lessons for the past eight years. I have taught from beginners to college-level lessons. I have found that passion and progress are key factors in younger students. I enjoy combining the classic pieces for each instrument, but also adding in modern music so the students can really enjoy and have the motivation to practice. Beginner Violin/Viola/Cello/Double Bass- I typically start in a class method book like essential elements or something similar, and move out of that book into etude books with music that pairs well with them, before moving onto things that are more student chosen once they can play well enough to play things that they like. Beginner Piano- I use the Leila Fletcher books because they are set up at a good pace, and work through those, adding in music that a student wants to learn as we go. Read More
