For young children, I usually choose teaching books that are more fun and give them a basic start with understanding musical symbols by performing tasks in their books. Once students begin to understand how to read and play, I start to introduce the next level of material for them. For adults, I focus on what they are interested in and give more in-depth theory or compositional discussions if they wish or guide them towards playing pieces they always wanted to learn. Read More

I believe that effective instruction has a “rhythm” of its own that takes place as a result of the alternation of doing and thinking, and that good teaching of anything begins with what the students already know, or have the ability to do, and ends with what we want them to know, or be able to do. I find it equally important to be able to hear the notes that one can play on their instrument just like they can see the notes they can play in the process.
