I have over 20 years of teaching experience. The age range has varied from 8 to 88! I teach beginning, intermediate and advanced students in intense private lessons, using traditional and non-traditional methods. The focus can be Jazz, Classical, Klezmer and other World musics. For beginning students I use trhe Avram Galper methods, but also include ear training, and little songs early on. For adult students, I try to figure out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
I am an enthusiastic and flexible teacher who seeks to help students chart their own path in music. I'm an Illinois native, and I studied music education and clarinet performance at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Wisconsin before coming to Pittsburgh to study at Duquesne University. While in Pittsburgh, I've had the opportunity to perform with Alia Musica, a professional contemporary music ensemble, and with the Directions Duo, a group dedicated to performing music new and old in innovative settings. My performing career has taken me from Boston to the Arkansas Ozarks and many places in between, allowing me the opportunity to grow as a teacher and musician through my interactions with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds.
My teaching approach is to match repertoire to the student's current needs. For example, a student who needs to work on building dexterity will be working on technical exercises while another student may be focusing on tone or dynamic expression in their weekly exercises. I typically start my beginning piano students with the Alfred's piano series in conjunction with the Finger Power series for building technique. For more advanced students, I prefer to use the Hanon Virtuoso Pianist series as well as scale practice and classical repertoire. New flute and violin students will start with the Essential Elements series or for more mature beginners, the Rubank series for flute and the Suzuki series for violin. Duet books will also be added as the student grows. On the other hand, if a student comes to lessons having already begun a series of repertoire they prefer, I will be happy to accomadate. I believe the most important part of teaching is to tailor each lesson to the individual student. What works for one student may not work for another, and it is essential to be open to new teaching methods and grow with one's students.
I make sure to teach each student at his or her pace. I love to see students succeed and enjoy their lessons. I also make sure to encourage students to keep going if he or she is having a tough time with a concept or skill.
Five years ago, while in college, I took a Vocal Pedagogy class to fulfill my course load as a Vocal Performance Major. During this course, I was required to take on a few vocal students and I still have those same students till this day. I found a deep passion for passing on knowledge to other who love this art form as mush as I do. I enjoy mixing structure with humor to keep stress low and productivity high. If a student isn't having fun and gaining confidence, then I'm not doing my job. I'm extremely excited to bring on students of various ages and abilities!

The main benefit of taking music lessons is that they help instill a love of music! Students who take music lessons are much more likely to enjoy many different types of music, because greater understanding increases musical appreciation. Music lessons also have been shown to improve students academic performance, resulting in higher test scores in maths, sciences, and linguistics.
In order to safeguard our students and provide a level of security to the lesson experience, Musika utilizes Intellicorp for its screening and background check procedures on all teachers in our network, with thorough background checks being conducted on the national, state, and local county level.
Live performing is a great asset to any musician. Musika offers recitals every year in the Spring where students of all ages and levels can come together to show off their hard work! Teachers help the students to choose and prepare their material, and Musika provides the venue and a piano accompanist if the student should need one.
Musika offers a convenient solution for when you want to add music lessons to your busy schedule. Teachers can come to your home on the days you are available, and give you the same great lesson that you would have in a studio! This option allows you to stay in the comfort of your own home and get a great music lesson at the same time. With in home lessons you are able to save time and money that would usually be spent on travel expenses.
Your introductory lesson is a chance for you to meet your teacher, and ask any questions you have before committing to registering for lessons. Only after you have decided to continue with your teacher would you provide any billing information for Musika. This trial lesson is a great time to discuss your current skill level and goals so the teacher will be able to work out a customized lesson plan for you.

I feel she is a very professional teacher and I have already recommended your company and her to my friends who have children that play musical instruments. My 8 year old son has never been so enthusiastic to play his violin. His skills have improved almost exponentially since we have began lessons with Lauren. Your company has exceeded my expectations and I am very happy to have found it online.

I've been taking lessons from Michael once a week for eight weeks now, and with his help I have made dramatic improvements with my sax. Michael is a funny, nice, patient and all around great instructor. I'd recommend Michael, as an instructor, to anyone who wants to improve their skills and have fun while doing it.

Mike has been working with my son Robert for over a year and has just started working with my daughter Kate. Mike is both a great musician and a good teacher. He connects with the kids and keeps them engaged. He is able to tailor the lesson to focus on music that is interesting to each child. He also encourages the students to participate in a public setting which is great. I would highly recommend Mike.

We value Chelsea for the quality of her lessons, but also for the flexibility of her schedule. She has worked around family vacations, impromptu summer camps and the upcoming school year. Emily is better prepared to start middle school band this year due to flute lessons from Chelsea and we plan to continue the lessons for the foreseeable future.

Having taken 6 years of piano lessons myself when I was young, I am very happy with Osmond teaching my daughter. He is very personable and helping her to enjoy piano. My daughter loves the fun songs she gets to play and I really appreciate how he is integrating even in the first month fingering, chords, beats, and hearing the music. She's getting a very well rounded training and she's loving it!

“My son and I have been taking lessons with Lynn for 5 or 6 years now. She is very patient with younger students (& older students having "senior moments"). She is also flexible in her lessons in that if we want to work on theory, jazz, rock, blues, she will cater to our requests.” – Karl B., C.P.A., Aug 2015

Henry has been a great piano teacher since I started lessons about a month ago, and he is helping me realize a lifelong dream. He is patient, plays beautifully, is easy to learn from and a very nice person. I took lessons as a child for a year or so, but never followed up over the years. I always said that I would once I retired and found the right instructor. That time is now. Thank you Henry and Musika!

Jessie is the finest musician I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I find her overall concept of approaching an instrument to be both comprehensive and effective. Each technique she has acquired has made it possible for her to tailor her method to a variety of ages and individuals. I cannot speak more highly of Miss Jessie's abilities. Her lengthy and impressive cradecials speak for themselves. I recommend no hesitation in seeking her services!

Darrell is A-Maz-Ing! He demands results from his students and therefore results come quickly. The time he spends teaching is intense and packed with great instruction. He is a tough teacher but offers lots of valuable instruction that is applicable for music as well as life in general. I highly recommend Darrell if you are ready for results!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
