Instruments: Clarinet Music

The short cut to playing the clarinet like a pro is actually the long way done properly. In other words, there are no short cuts. We will work with patience, persistence, and of course, with a metronome. We will set written goals and come up with reward systems. For serious students, in my studio, we will treat playing the clarinet like being an Olympic athlete preparing for a gold medal! Read More

I began teaching when I started studying with Berklee. Admittedly, I wasn't entirely sure how to take on such a job, but soon discovered that it was something that came naturally to me, and something I enjoyed doing. I have taught students of varying levels, from a complete beginner unable to read any music, to someone who was able to sightread proficiently. I like to take the time to know what my student's goals are, and help them work towards achieving them. Read More

During my undergraduate career, I taught lessons to vocal and piano students in the Chicago area. I truly loved working with those students, and I am looking forward to getting back into teaching now that I have settled in Bowling Green. The students that I had in the past immensely inspired me, and I always left lessons feeling positive and hopeful. I am sure that I will be able to find students in this area who can provide me with a similar positive experience. Read More

Seeing my students succeed is one of the most gratifying things for me. Success in students can be measured in so many ways, and each individual will have different goals. My job is to match my students where they are at, and try to bring them to the next level. There is no one size fits all method for teaching anybody. What’s important is to strike a balance of activities that works for the student, engaging their desire to learn while giving them the structure necessary for success. For example, many students want to learn their favorite pop song or the latest hit from their favorite movie. I want to help them not just play those songs, but use that as a way to learn valuable skills for future musical interests. Read More

My teaching experience dates back approximately five years, and I've taught to students as young as 8 to as old as 20. With all of my students, I tailor my lesson plans to their specific needs. I like to find out why my students want to play guitar, what they want to play, and foster their continuing growth by teaching them what they want to learn. I will never force knowledge upon any student who doesn't want to learn it, or simply won't benefit from it. Read More

I encourage my students to conduct research outside of their lessons, in order for them to learn as much as possible about the history of their instrument, as well as the genre and style in which they are performing. I aid them with this research by providing introductory resources, eventually leading them towards general music databases. I also encourage students to listen to recordings of many different styles and genres in order to hear elements that cannot always be explained with words. Read More
