Every student is different, and for that reason I tailor each students materials to their needs. Some students are advanced enough to begin learning from Rochut's Melodious Etudes book, while some may need something easier than that, like Cimera's Phrasing Studies book. I focus hard on the fundamentals of the instrument and don't introduce material that is too hard for the student. I also want to make sure that the student is playing their school's band music correctly, and if they need help, I work on that with them. Read More

I start by assessing where a student is at in terms of skill level and what their intentions are for learning how to play drums/percussion. For younger students, I'll start with getting their coordination together so they can begin to play and be involved in the learning process. I've been teaching since 2006 at Baldwin - Wallace College, where I became an Adjunct Lecturer in Piano by the recommendation of the piano pedagogy faculty in 2007.  When in town, I've been teaching students primarily from ages 5-25, in traditional repertory and to help other older musicians hone specific skills.  I've taught students who have played in recitals, church services; including students who composed music that appeared in the Cannes International Film Festival, and students who wished to only play privately.  I pride myself in my strong technique which I credit to my background with the Cleveland Institute of Music, which is one of the biggest benefits that my students quickly take on.  I specialize in teaching classical music, and I also teach basic jazz and pop improvisation, to all ages. My teaching experience has covered various situations, styles, and instruments. During my undergraduate work I taught general music at an elementary school, and did my student teaching as an instrumental teacher in an elementary school, and as a band teacher in a middle school. In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. During my graduate degree I taught students of various levels and ages privately, and also taught the Trumpet Techniques class, where I taught non trumpet playing music education majors the basics of how to play trumpet as well as how to teach it in their future classrooms.
