I began my teaching experience in the Bronx, where I created a music program in a very large public elementary school. In additon to a full schedule of general music classes, I directed over 200 assembly programs involving students from Kindergarten through 4th grade.  I also developed an after-school Chorus program, putting on Winter and Spring concerts, as well as several Broadway musicals.  In 2001 I transferred to Mount Vernon, where I was able to continue and expand my program, incorporating concert band and all-grade musical performances for students from Pre-K to 6th grade. After basic musical skills have been developed I'll move on to more interesting solo pieces based on the interests and needs of the students. My cello instruction is separated by levels and books. Level 0-1 is in Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Level 1-2 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 1, as well as sheet music and books outside of that method book. Level 2-3 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 2 and sheet music, and 3+ will be Rick Mooney's Thumb Position books. Based on that information I will create a program that the student (parents of student) and I will agree upon. Immediately after the agreement we will  implement said agreement. I firmly believe in individual learning processes. Once I determine each student's learning style, I design my lessons to adhere to that style. Most students prefer a combination of vocal instruction and hands-on demonstration of theory and technique. It is exciting and rewarding to me to meet the student where they are and work with them in a manner that is comfortable for them.
