I travel to all of my students houses and have a very flexible schedule. It helps with minimizing the time of the parents/ students travel and bringing the lesson into the comfort of their own home. I check with each student what they are really trying to get out of their lessons and which direction they want to go. Especially when beginning a new instrument, acknowledging goals that a student has, or songs they would like to learn to perform is essential to helping that initial eagerness to continue throughout lessons, and to help the student feel accomplished in their instrument. I begin with a crash course in music fundamentals to give students a classical understanding of their playing, reading, and writing techniques. Next, I teach them scales, chords, and playing techniques that correlate with their level of playing and music comprehension.
