I started teaching one-on-one so the students could get the results for strengthening their voice. As I always say "Singing is Breathing" so the first exercise I teach is proper diaphragmatic breathing to increase vocal range. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. When teaching children, I make sure to take advantage of their neuroplasticity by mastering the basics of rhythm, sight-reading and phrasing, all while making it fun and intuitive.
