I believe that music has the capacity to be an agent of change, both within and outside one's self. Learning a musical instrument can be a very satisfying opportunity to grow as a person and as a musician. I know it helped me when I was studying voice. Along with voice I find it important that a student understands and grasps the concepts of general music theory and the history of the pieces and composers of which they will be studying in hopes that such information will create an even deeper understanding and love for music. I focus on the individual more than anything else. I tailor my teaching style to each student.  When something clicks for them, I stick with it and adapt to keep the student engaged, interested, and passionate about music.  If I find a student is not fond of a certain book or solo, we change course together. I start off lessons slowly with simple technical studies where the student can focus specifically on technique to efficiently and confidently. To help support this stage I typically introduce basic note reading skills to acquaint the students with musical notation while introducing them to playing in time. I have taken methods classes on teaching band and string instruments.
