For beginning students I like to find out how much experience they have had in music and find out what they want to get out of these lessons. If they are just starting out I'll start with the basics, how to hold a drumstick, the parts of the drum set, correct posture, etc. I believe that all students regardless of age and level should learn how to read music. For my beginning students i will start them off with the Rubank series of books for beginners. This will teach them basic tone and basic technique. After that I will continue to using the Rubank series for intermediate and advance volume 1. After that I will switch to the Hite Etude books Volume 1 and 2 these book will go into more depth with the tone and the technique. After that depending on how well the student response to the books I will then introduce solo repertoire appropriate for the their first recital performance. Read More
