I've had a wide array of experiences in both the education and the performing world. I have been teaching private lessons part time for almost a year. In that short time, my studio has grown to include seven students of varying skill levels. I believe that regular practice is important, and that practicing should be fun. I try to combine classical and modern music when teaching, as both are important to the development of a well rounded musician. For beginning guitar students, I start with Alfred's Basic Guitar Method. Once a foundation is established, I gauge where the student wants to go stylistically and tailor lesson plans from there. There are a plethora of guitar methods available, but I find it most valuable to learn parts from recordings of the guitarists whom they most want to emulate. For young children I will start with the basics of music. Laying the fondation for years to come. With young children it is important to not overtax the voice and to consider their attention span. These lesson shouldn't last more than a half hour. For beginning students I want to focus on breath, posture, pure vowels and natural consonants.
