Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

Hi, my name is Caroline, and I began playing at the age of 3, formal training at age 5, studying with professional pianists all the way through college. I am classically trained, and studied classical piano as well as Jazz in college and beyond. I enjoy learning and teaching all types of music, including composition and improvisation. I offer my students 2 recitals every year, and I encourage any other opportunities to perform whenever possible. Read More

I am a warm, creative, fun, persistant person. My passion for music and culture are unparalleled. With me a student will be inspired, and I work hard to fill them with a wonder and respect for music that will fuel their creative spirit and help them grow. I love to talk about culture and how music affects us in our daily lives. I am always willing to learn and grow, and encourage my students to do the same. Read More

I am a former member of Simn Bolvar Symphony Orchestra and teacher within the National System of Orchestras and Youth and Childrens Choirs of Venezuela (El Sistema) for more than 15 years. Recently, I was the Teaching Assistant of the clarinet studio at the University of South Carolina School of Music (2021-2023). I consider the teaching experience should be a learning process on how to teach yourself and others. In my teaching approach, discipline, perseverance, respect, and confidence are some of the most important values. Read More

I don't have just ONE method...because every student has different likes, and different goals, they need personalized lessons. Some enjoy music theory, others prefer to just learn a more basic approach. Since I learned formally (in school/lessons) and informally (by ear, self-taught and playing onstage), I can give students whichever method suits their goals, with as much or as little theory as they are comfortable with. I specialize in playing by ear, which is essential for students who want to play onstage or make music with others, without worrying about sheet music. Read More

For beginning students, I always start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I've found this book to be the best at introducing the instrument and reading the music. I may or may not continue teaching out of the books (there's 3), but that depends on the student. By book 2 or 3 I usually begin introducing Suzuki, as there are many solo pieces for them. Suzuki is also great for teaching technique, which is essential to their skill-set. Read More

For beginning students, I focus on creating great tone quality and establishing excellent practice habits. I typically recommend the Rubank Elementary Method for beginners, but many students have to purchase other texts such as Accent on Achievement or the Hal Leonard Essential Elements for their beginning band class. In any case, these will also work for beginning lessons! Once a student advances, I will have them work on all Major and Minor scales found within the Klose Scale Sheet (located on my website), then we will move to the Baermann scale book. Read More
