I firmly believe in establishing long term goals for which the class is being taught and developed. For beginner students who are children, I tend to lean into the music that they are more fond of listening to and develop an atmosphere of interest while using various colors, singing methods, rhymes that will grasp their attention and in the long run develop their ear. For young adults and up, I develop my lesson plans accordingly depending on their level of musicianship. Read More

I'm a Suzuki-trained violinist and singer, a graduate of the University of Houston, and have studied music for the majority of my life! I'm based in Houston and have performed in opera and with various musical theater companies in the Houston area. Even though I've focused on classical music for most of my career, I love branching out into different styles, particularly Celtic, Texan, Jewish, Romani, and even a bit of Zydeco. Read More

In the early years of my teaching profession I taught in various small Texas school districts. I taught in Houston ISD for over 25 years. I have taught PK fifth grade students throughout my career. I initiated a piano lab at my last school for second grade students. I employed creativity and fun in my mission to expose my students to the use of various percussion instruments. I also developed, planned, and executed live performances and recitals. Read More

I'm a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist with a fresh, practical approach to teaching, based on my 27-year on-stage perfoming experience. Everything I share with students, I get them to apply it directly in the songs they love, which not only shows them how things work musically, but also keeps them excited and motivated about learning music. Fronting my own band for 20 years, writing/arranging songs, and performing them all over the world has given me the insight into applying music concepts into real songs, and real musical situations. I use a number of resources to teach students concepts in musical performance. This includes online resources and method books that enhance fundamentals and technique. I do believe that understanding of music theory is necessary to advance beyond the intermediate level, and this system has assisted in training many students over the years. Novice students are encouraged through movement and activities to teach concepts while intermediate players are given exercises that focus on instrumental technique to strengthen musicality. For beginner students, i typically like to work with the tried and true Suzuki books, as well as theory practice with Essential Elements for violin, and the Faber books for pianists. I will begin to introduce solo work as skills build, but we will always be working on something that the student genuinely is interested in. For adults/ intermediate or advanced students i try to find what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons fun and engaging while also slightly challenging to further understanding of technical abilities.
