Instruments: Piano Guitar Trumpet

My teaching is based on the thought that everone can be comfortable with making music. Since comfort comes best when things are fun, I like to focus on music that the student likes. This usually involves improvising as soon as a student knows a few notes, which creates a chance for self-expression and leads to confidence in playing with others. I also place emphasis on phrasing, My experience is that many students get wrapped up in the mechanical process of playing at the expense of musicality. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet

I first began teaching while still completing my Bachelors degree at William Paterson in 2011. Most of my students were beginning level piano students, but I had a few more advanced students as well as some people studying saxophone with me. My teaching philosophy is to combine teaching the technique of an instrument with learning songs as well as theory and improvisation/composition. Everyone learns technique, but learning music that I wanted to learn, learning how those songs were written (theory), and eventually elaborating on those songs (improvisation), and writing my own music (composition), was what really got me deeply engaged in the act of practicing and making music, and I have found over several years of teaching that it keeps my students engaged and enjoying the learning process. Instruments: Piano

I applaud the strengths I see in my students and I make them catch up on their weaker parts. However, I dont pressure anyone too much - I dedicate some time to improving on a difficult task, but I do not spend an entire lesson drilling the same thing, for it gets exhausting and unpleasant. The most important thing is to repeat the same process consistently, even if little by little. Read More

Instruments: Bass Guitar Double Bass

It is my duty to make sure the student is always engaged and enthused. The student always comes first. My method of teaching needs to be flexible so that I can give each student my all so they can perform at their very best. By finding out what a students goal is, I can craft my teaching so that they get the maximum amount of information from me. All while making sure any and all improvements and accomplishment are noticed so they can see their progress and have it affirmed so they feel that they are going places. Read More

Instruments: Drums

I have a varied teaching background with 11 years experience teaching various subjects at a professional level. I have instructed students aged 6-70+ during this time. Subjects taught include expert level map, compass and gps courses, basic outdoor and nature courses as well as outdoor safety sections. I approach teaching music using the same principles that I apply to other subjects that I teach. I prefer a strategy of solid work ethic, experience, fundamentals, honor, flexibility, understanding, responsibility, adaptability, a dash of recklessness along with intelligence and book study. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
