Depending on a student's musical background, I would typically start with foundational exercises like scales/arpeggios/broken chords and discussions of essential music theory elements to help a student progress. If the student is brand new to the flute, I would also do some breath work, and introduce exercises to improve tone and understand tuning. Trombone - I utilize the books Abrams and Rochut-Melodious Etudes. I develop custom curriculum for each students level and learning style. At the first lesson, I evaluate what the student wants to get out of the lessons, what sparks their interests in music, and skill level. I have been the first chair in every orchestra Ensemble since I have been in the 7th grade including the CMEA Bay Area Secdtion Ensemble, Honor Orchestra, Bay Area Honor Orchestra, College of Marin Symphony Orchestra, etc I have also gotten three music scholarships from three universities, however, since I want to follow a different path, I decided to turn it down.
