I am a passionate and devoted piano teacher with a real love of music and a strong desire to pass my knowledge onto others. I took seven years of piano lessons in grade school and graduated from Florida State College with an Associate of Arts in Music degree. I also played piano in the Charlton County High School Jazz Ensemble and at the United Methodist Church. I have been teaching in some capacity since college. I have directed a high-school praise team and taught guitar, piano, and recorder in a corrections institute. One of my earliest students was a former band-mate. One of the early lessons is the importance of practice. He saw for the first time my work ethic and commitment to daily practice. What I learned from the experience is the importance of demonstrating good music study habits and encouraging the students interest in music so that they can continue to grow and enjoy the guitar. For intermediate and Advanced students, it is a completely customized lesson plan to the individual so I can't really say what direction we take before I have had the chance to sit down and analyze their individual needs. As students progress, I like to spend more time teaching music theory and how the harmonies and melodies of pieces actually work together. At this stage the music becomes more difficult and lengthy, so I like to group phrases of the piece in sections until they can be played together cohesively.
