For beginning students (children and adults), I typically start with Alfred's Piano Lesson and Recital books. Before starting to read the music score, I seriously train their technique and hand/body posture. After students become fluent on note-reading and able to read and play basic rhythmic patterns properly, I will begin introduce simple solo repertoires and etudes such as Czerny studies, Bach minuets, Burgmuller studies, sonatinas, and simple classical repertoires in Keith Snell books. There is nothing more rewarding that sharing what I love most and helping fuel my student's passion for music. It's important to instill patience and an understanding of the process - changes won't happen overnight but rather over a period of time, and as long as there is progress is the right direction, that's all that matters. I encourage setting realistic goals and finding ways to consistently inspire and motivate my students to propel them forward in their studies. Read More

I usually come in pretty relaxed, but can be a drill sergeant if needed. I find that every student has their own learning pace and style and will never get needlessly angry. If a student is doing particularly well or seems invested in the material, I will always acknowledge it and the lessons will become very much enjoyable for everyone! Every single student has the potential to unlock some truly unique musical capabilities. Read More

As a performer, I was one of the winners of the 2009 SJSU French Music Competition, and one of the finalists of the 2013 BGSU Art Song Competition. In 2012-13, I served as the accompanist of the BGSU Men's Chorus, in which I've had the opportunity to participate in the performnace tour twice through 6 states along the East Coast. I also serve as a church pianist since Feburary 2014. Besides my performing endeavors, I have over 10 years of teaching experience (see My Experience). Read More

I always say that rhythm is more important than the notes. Play the right rhythm and the notes will come instead of playing every right note while sacrificing rhythm. I encourage students to make their mistakes loud, proud, and in rhythm so everyone has a better idea of what needs to be worked on most. I also emphasize isolating parts to practice and working backwards. Example: play the last two bars of the song until comfortable with it, now play the last 4 bars, last 6, last 8...etc., whole song. I Love teaching music, and love helping others progress on their musical journeys! I've played music for as long as I can remember, and spent my childhood learning just about every instrument I could get my hands on. As a young adult, I rigorously practiced piano and studied music theory, eventually writing an 80 page thesis analyzing jazz piano improvisation in college. Now, I like to spread my love of music by showing others how much joy it has brought to my life, and helping them to experience that same joy. Read More

I have been teaching private lessons for the past 4 years to my college peers and younger family members. I feel the two most important aspects of teaching for both the student and the teacher are repitition and patience. As a teacher, I try to find many ways to explain one concept, so as to help people among all learning styles understand the lesson. I will also focus on what the students want to do with their new-found skills, and focus on creating a solid foundation to build their own musical "thumb print," or, "Personality." Read More
