Thanks to parents who entrusted their childrens education to me, I was inspired to pursue a degree in Music Education from the University of Victoria, BC. Throughout my 30 years teaching career, I have closely worked with students of different age groups and cultural backgrounds in Vancouver (Canada), Chicago Northern Suburbs (Illinois) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). I have been very fortunate to work with some amazing musicians in my life. I have been teaching private music lesson for 5 years and have several loyal and dedicated students. My students participate in two performances each year, which I arrange. Our last recital was focused on the student's performing their own compositions that we wrote together in our lessons. Students should be able to play the music they enjoy, but are also encouraged to expland their horizons to new and different genres. For beginning students, whether they are children or adults, I begin instruction with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements book for Clarinet. Once they have made their way through that book, I move onto the Rubank Beginner or Intermediate Method book, depending on how they have progressed. Around this time, I introduce my younger students to solo repertoire for clarinet. For adult students, I try to gauge their interest and instruct accordingly, whether they are performing in their church or community band, or simply playing for pleasure. Read More
