My teaching style revolves around a student's interests, and my lessons are modified and personalized for each individual. Every student has a different style of their own, and I work hard to help them develope their style. Learning music should never feel like a chore; it should be a form of self expression. Rather than using only lesson books to teach, i also provide them a blank and personalized lesson journal, in which they learn the foundations of writing, reading and understanding sheet music and music theory. For beginning students, I normally start with Alfred's Drum Method. This book works on the fundamentals of reading snare drum music and basic technique. Once the students grasps the basics on reading and playing with a metronome then we tend to move to Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials (while still working on the Alfred's Method). After the student has began to play with the audio tracks and have succesfully gone through a few lessons from Groove Essentials then we begin to work on some solo repertoire and personal favorites as well. A fourth reason is because I am completely flexible with my lessons, teaching exactly what the student (or parent) wants (them) to learn, anything from the standard traditional approach (i.e reading music) to the rock approach just teaching them how to play their favorite songs, which I figure out by ear on the spot from the recording which the student asks me to listen to. Add to all that, I am very patient, friendly, humorous, approachable and humble/modest in demeanor, where many other teachers have a huge ego and "God complex", where they talk down to the student and make them feel uneasy and overly self-conscious. My approach to teaching really varies depending on the students specific needs. For absolute beginners, I can tend to follow a more concrete progression, but depending on who the student is, and what they're level of passion may be for learning something specific, the lesson may be highly specific. If the student is interested, I personally like to give them an understanding of some of the theory as they go along, even if they are a beginner because I believe it helps them to see the bigger picture. The theoretical and technical rigor of formal education allowed me to harness my self-taught musicality while preserving the trademark kinks in his imagination and playing style. After running around like headless chicken (studying, creating, teaching, performing, leading/organizing social music events, jamming with every living thing), I broke my childhood promise and decided to make music professionally. But I had begun teaching professionally far before my artistic aspirations caught up. Read More

Hailing from Philadelphia area, I grew up in a family of professional musicians. My diverse musical life has brought me to a number of stages: solo recitals, jazz big band, and electro-rock to name a few. While I love playing, I bring just as much passion to teaching, and love helping people of all ages achieve their goals and to help them find their way. Learning music is as much about the journey as the end goal, and I try to make that journey as fun and worthwhile as possible. Read More
