I believe that a set of expectations on the student is required to keep them motivated, but I am never upset or disappointed if they don't practice enough. Most of my playing experience came from growing up in the church and playing in various school and extracurricular music groups. The most important aspect is to make learning a fun, enjoyable and fulfilling process by understanding the student and listening to what they want to accomplish.
