For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Alfred's Basic Piano Course for piano students. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder
For beginning young students I prefer the Rubank Elementary Method for saxophone, clarinet and flute, and my own (unpublished) method for recorder. For older beginners, there are many books on the market. I'll work with what the student perfers. For more advanced students there are classic works such as Klose for clarinet or saxophone, solo works for competition or performance, or just for fun. I want recorder students to learn the 2 basic sets of fingering, since ensemble playing usually requires changing instruments. Read More

Hi there this is Ian. I began taking clarinet lessons at the age of 12 years old. From then on I branched out to other instruments including guitar and piano. I have been the lead vocalist of Rock bands including Graffiti NJ and S.T.O.R (The Sun Thugs of Rebellion). I studied under various teachers including Danny Roselle (Crash moderns) as well as Dave Feddoc, Chris Bloom, Gene Segal, Igor Ramos, and Stephen Hart (Les Miserables, Metallica Philharmonic Orchestra). I started teaching voice while at Purchase College and then focused on performing and writing, and came back to teaching last year. I use the techniques I've learned from my vocal teachers along the way, as long as my own ideas and perspectives on healthy, correct ways to sing your best. I believe strongly in teaching technique and basic theory in addition to singing whole pieces and performing. To me, every aspect of singing is enjoyable and I try to bring that sense of positivity and encouragment to my lessons. Read More
Instruments: Voice Flute Music
I am passionate about connecting students to their own unique voice through discovering the relationship between the body, the brain, vocal discipline, and personal expression. I work on creating a resonant and freely produced sound throughout all the registers. My goal is to promote healthy vocal technique while having full engagement in a song. I believe that singing is not only learning the right notes and words while delivering a lovely sound: singing is conveying your emotion, your engagement, and your character’s situation to the audience. I incorporate different styles of teaching including 'rote learning', which is essentially learning by ear and imitation, as well as uniquely tailored exercises. I incorporate different warm-up etudes that I use with each student to build basic fundamentals of learning the instrument. And I also encourage students to practice scales and drills to develop their muscle memory. I also believe that learning to play an instrument is as much a physical experience as it is a mental one that requires discipline, repetition, hard work, and patience. Read More

I begin my Classical students with the Julian Sagreras guitar method book, then move into the Aaron Shearer Learning the Classic Guitar series. Once students have a firm grasp of the fundamentals, we begin on solo repertoire. For contemporary styles, I prefer to start complete beginners on the Hal Leonard guitar method books, and then I encourage them to seek out artists that they enjoy. In all of my lessons, students will analyze chord structures, sing and dictate melodies, and learn history about the guitar and general music. Read More
