For beginning trumpet students, I start with a combination of Clark and Arbank Technical studies for a formal structure. A majority of the technical teaching I do is based on these two methods. I also implement techniques from the Sheridan and Pilafian Breathing Gym to establish the fundamental mechanics of generating sound. My approach fits with the student and parental desire. Once we know those parameters, we can proceed and make it work in the best way for the students success. I always take time to understand where the student is coming from, their goals, the parent goals. For beginning and intermediate students, I offer my own rudiment book to start learning on a practice pad or snare drum. For learning drum set, I use a variety of books and resources. I will meet and discuss these options with each student to find the right book for them. For more advanced students, I have them transcribe entire songs from bands they enjoy. I create Spotify playlists for students so they can easily access a variety of styles of music. Read More

I truly enjoy seeing my students learn to appreciate music and its many styles and uses. My teaching style, while keeping a focus on the fundamentals of piano, also encourages creativity and exploration of their own. All students have different learning styles and speeds, and some students may take longer to understand certain concepts. I take this into account before each lesson, and tailor the lesson to be both productive and enjoyable. Read More

As a trained jazz musician, I like improvising and composing exercises for students on the spot and this is a skill I like to teach my students as well.
