I always make sure to appreciate the big and even little accomplishments my students make. I will never complain if a student is not reaching my expectations because I believe complaining only discourages the student. My main goal is to make students realize that learning music is fun and a great experience to have in life. Whether you are doing it as a pastime or as a job, I want to let them know that music is one of the greatest forms of entertainment of all time! Read More
Instruments: Voice
When I have had people observe the lessons I teach, I have been told that I have a calm, cool, and collected teaching style. I am always rooting for my students to succeed, and am always striving to create a safe and fun learning environment. The thing that I love most about teaching voice is that everyone's voice is beautifully unique. I enjoy guiding each singer on their journey of singing and seeing where their hard work takes them. I have taught all ages from third grade to elderly adult and can adapt to any situation. I love to instill a love for music in a young person so they can enjoy it for many years and possibly go on to biggerr and better things. I have Bergen students who have gone on to 4 year colleges to continue their studies. I began teaching private lessons while still finishing college. While doing my student teaching at Nanuet, NY highschool, I was the Adjunct instructor of brass at Baptist Bible College in PA. (Now Summit University). Read More

My relationship with music making began at the age of 7 when I begrudgingly agreed to take piano lessons at the nudging of my parents. In the first lesson, my teacher taught me the theme from The Simpsons, and I was sold. It would be years before I would actually become competent at turning notes on a page into something musically expressive, but that day I went home knowing I had found something special, and that inertia has carried me to where I am today. I believe in teaching future string musicians there is only one way to make the best sound and teaching how to do this from the beginning. I want the students to understand how their instrument works by demystifying the mechanics. Once the student knows how to use the instrument, they can then discover the music and their voice in the music. For string instruments, I use the Suzuki books and Artistry in Strings method. I think being well rounded is important with music and one thing that I've noticed is building on what the student is interested in. Started off with materials builds important fundamentals, but if my student is nodding off to sleep, then I'm not doing my job. I'll begin by setting a goal and seeing what the student is interested in (i.e. what band/song would they like to learn about?) From there, I'll set a realistic goal (Flight of the Bumblebee can't and shouldn't be the first song on guitar that you learn) and we'll learn the techniques, structure, and music theory that exists in a certain song. I start off all beginning students by teaching them the fundamentals of singing. If students have taken lessons in the past, I work on reviewing fundamental concepts with them. When a student first begins lessons, I typically spend more time on helping to build the student's technique than on repertoire, and as the student progresses, I split the lesson more equally between the two components. I believe in motivating students by helping them learn the repertoire to which they are most attracted, though I do also give them repertoire of styles with which they may be less familiar in order to help them solidify their technique.
