I love to perform, but I also love to work with students by sharing my musical journey. The best people I can share my passion are always my students. After I graduated at Manhattan School of Music, I have made my debut as Mezzo soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass at Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall in New York , as well as Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy at Carnegie Hall. I like my lessons to be fun! I like to start my lesson with a "music swap": we each play one minute of a song that we found that week from youtube or spotify and take 30-60 seconds to say why we found it interesting or inspiring (it can be any genre). We then aim to discuss and practice a new technical skill and use exercises to develop it, we work on a song from the method series or a song that the student wants to work on (I often transpose pop/rock songs for my students), and then rhythm training, ear training, and music theory concepts are interspersed throughout. I love working with students who want to dare to try new things! I think that students grow most when they are stretched out of their comfort zone. This allows them to find their limits physically, vocally, emotionally, and then to build upon their strengths to become the artists they strive to be. I like to incorporate physicality to help loosen the body and free the mind from overthinking. I also believe music is a place to express and will always meet my student where they are each lesson. I've taught lessons for a total of 8 years in New York City, Boston, and Midwestern Illinois. I've taught all kinds of students: children, teens, college students, adults, and retirees. Each student has come with their own goals and passions, and I enjoy helping each individual uncover, free, and develop the natural voice within. In addition to setting each student up with a solid vocal technique, I've taught basic music and vocal health to young children (ages 5-7), developed music reading skills in teens and young adults, helped retirees improve technically so they can better contribute to their community choirs, and even instructed a folk singer in improvisation, songwriting, and healthy folk vocal technique. I set different goals for each student. I realize that every student learns at a different pace and has special ways of comprehending the information. I want to push the student to work hard, but would never give them more than they can handle. I want my students to love music and look forward to practicing each day. I began teaching lessons privately in college, and gained significant experience teaching online through the Covid shut down. My favorite aspect of teaching is sharing my love of the saxophone with my students, and passing on knowledge about the instrument that is not widely known or available. I have taught saxophone lessons at several music studios in both California and New York, as well as my own independent students. I also have an active performing career as a soloist, chamber musician, and large ensemble player. Read More

I always have taught with patience and kindness and have found that every explanation and solution must be keyed to the needs of each individual student. Through my many years of teaching I have found many ways of explaining each point.
