I believe patience coupled with encouragement can be a recipe for success. When the student develops their own passion for music and their instrument their abilities tend to soar. I attempt to set realistic goals for the student but I am very adaptable and flexible. I still remember being able to strum my first song on the guitar. After that I was hooked! For example, if I have a student who is taking baritone saxophone lessons, then I will have a baritone saxophone with me. For beginers I will start them off working through a beginig method book, gradually learning new skills and notes along the way. Eventually we will work on various solo pieces such as classical repertoire, or even movie or pop tunes.
