I usually start with the Rubank Elementary Method book. There are four books in the series and they are very comprehensive. Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! Learning discipline, focus, problem solving skills, awareness, and interpretation in the practice room is useful in every aspect of life. As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities.
