I am a caring and compassionate vocal music teacher and I teach to intermediate level piano and theory as well. I believe music is for everybody and should be explored. I hope to emulate some of my great teachers including Robert Hurst, Cecil McBee, John Lockwood and others. Of course regular practice is necessary, but listening is also key to advancement. Besides regular warmups and technical workouts, I encourage every student to transcribe, sing and play along with music they like. In 1994, I graduated from Asbury University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance. In 1995, I graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance. I began teaching music in high school, a friend coworker had a son that wanted to learn trumpet and it was a fun way to make money. As I continued into college, I learned that I was able to give lessons to members of the band or choir as an employee to the Adrian College Academic Services Department and I was happy to do so. In addition to Adrian College students, I also gave lessons to local high schoolers (mostly tuba players) and many where featured and scored well in state Solo and Ensemble exhibitions. Read More
