I am a passionate and devoted piano teacher with a real love of music and a strong desire to pass my knowledge onto others. I took seven years of piano lessons in grade school and graduated from Florida State College with an Associate of Arts in Music degree. I also played piano in the Charlton County High School Jazz Ensemble and at the United Methodist Church. I started playing piano at age 5 and finished a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy from Saint Louis University. My 16 years of classical training helped me attain a teaching position at the Yamaha School of Music in the Philippines and a rewarding teaching career at the Florida Conservatory of Music in Jacksonville, Florida. Within a month, you should be able to play all the notes of the C Major scale. I will be available to answer any questions you might have, and I will make sure that you start out with the correct mouth shape, or "embouchure". This is critical to establish and get right at first, so I will make sure you start playing correctly, with correct hand placements, and such. I tailor each of my lessons to the needs and desires of each individual. I am fond of using method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Bruce Peterson's Standard of Excellence (or, with school children in a band program, whatever their method book may be), but I also like to bring separate handouts or sheets of exercises, drills, and songs that I have created over the years.
