I start beginners with the drum rudiments and chart reading. This gets them able to move their hands and feet for better coordination. After they have better coordination I introduce ear training which is playing along to their favorite songs. This teaches the student how toplay with a band. For older advanced students I give a listening test to see where they are as a student then I teach accordingly. Read More

I prefer a direct, open, creative approach to teaching. I like to get to know my students well, and try to appeal to their greatest areas of interest. I aim to teach the loving and fun nature of music, to expand students' minds, and to provide them with food for thought and methods for improving. I customize each lesson for the student and our mutual expectations. I love to play with my student, finding that aural learning is very effective and allows the student to become comfortable with performance. Read More

Depending on students age and ability, I use different kind of methods. For students that are new to music I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, this book is really good to start to learn about music and the instrument, and then Suzuki method for repertoire. For more advanced students I like to set learning steps, that way my students can achieve goals quickly and feel more engaging to practice. Read More
