For beginning students who are younger I typically start with Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures. If a student is older I will put them in the accelerated method or the adult method. I will sometimes supplement with Alfred's Premier series or Music Tree. Once a student has progressed to a certian level, I will introduce other piano literature to supplement the method book learning. I try to best fist the goals of my students whether that is starting from the beginning with traditional piano lessons or to achieve some other goal or purpose. Read More

After introductions have been made by me and the student, I usually ask a goal of theirs that they would like to accomplish during their studies with me. From there, I usually focus on fundamentals while I try and figure out where they are as a player and cater my instruction to what I discover. For an elementary student, that might be relating musical concepts they are being taught by their 3rd grade music teacher, like "ta's" being quarter notes, to what they are learning on saxophone.  I implement materials of my own design mixed with songs of the students choosong and tastes, and typically have them up and playing a song or two that they like in a couple of lessons.  All ages, styles, and expereince levels are welcome. For reading,  I like to use a combination of notation, tabs and chord diagrams.  And while I dont absolutely insist that the student learn to read notation, I do strongly encourage it. Read More
