I begin with the fundamentals of music theory that you will need to begin playing your instrument, and then I like to get straight into learning songs as quickly as possible. The student may choose what songs to learn (recommended) or I can make suggestions. You will learn a range of skills including tuning, instrument care, song struture, chords, soloing, and MUCH MORE. My goal is for you not just to learn to play certain notes or chords, but also understand why that note or chord fits where it does. Read More
Instruments: Cello
Other than what would be the general consensus of the standard cello repertoire, and a couple of technique books which I find to be incredibly useful with one area of pedagogy or another, I do not follow any of the current methods widely available to string players. It is my firm belief that it is the job of the teacher to be both adequately well versed and acutely attentive to each individual students' strengths, flaws, and the overall nuances of their playing style to be able to recommend appropriate literature, exercises, and music that is best suited for the student. I understand that as a teacher, my job is to not just teach the instrument or a song, but to inspire a deep, passionate love for music. The teachers that had the biggest impact on me and that I enjoyed the most were the ones who cared the most about my relationship to the music I was playing. Because of this, I make sure the student is always engaged in what they are playing and are enjoying it. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar
I am a huge music enthusiast, and love almost every discipline from classical to pop. I am primarily a classical pianist, and I have been taking lessons for about 10 years from an adjunct professor at Tulane University, but I also enjoy playing jazz/blues and pop. In addition to playing, I compose many of my own piano pieces, as well as create arrangements of popular songs and produce music electronically. Read More

Teaching students is a privilege, as well as a challenge. Every mind works differently, everyone's musical and life experiences are different. I enjoy figuring out how the student's mind works, and what individual learning experiences they bring. Then I tailor my way of teaching them most effectively to their specific learning system. My own musical journey has started with learning melodies by heart before learning them from written music – an approach that always requires sound outside of us. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Recorder
My approach largely imitates the ones employed on me when I was first learning, and carries all the way through my college years of private instruction. I use a medley of great music books that I find to be crucial staples of learning foundations, as well as mu own musicology textbook that I've been writing and adapting for years. Students will be expected to practice and learn scales, arpeggios, and other basic music theory. Read More
