If the student gets bored with one method book, I will mostly likely top it off with something else from Alfred. I stress mostly on counting proper rhythm, learning alphabets, and finger numbers for early age groups. For beginning students, we typically begin with Essential Elements while discovering fundamentals of the instrument and getting a handle on reading bass clef and rhythms. This of course varies on a student's previous experience or comfort with reading music. We progress from there into appropriate etudes that can be quite melodic and entertaining to practice and then beginning solo repertoire, and advance from there.
