I'm an experienced instructor and drummer from Silver Spring, Maryland. I have been playing the drums since age six and I have been teaching drum lessons since I was fifteen. I have preformed and recorded with many different bands of many different styles of music throughout my musical career. I love to build a curriculum that is specific to each student's needs. I.e. I like to work with students and help them reach the goals that they have set for themselves. I am an acoustic percussive guitarist currently working in the greater Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. I have been teaching guitar almost as long as I've been playing guitar, starting with just friends and family but eventually moving on to support myself as a private instructor. I have apprenticed with UDC Jazz Band Guitarist Pete Muldoon and Matt Kelley (of the blues band "Big Boy Little"). During his time in school, Mike performed in a number of different groups. He has played in situations as varied as Orchestra, Big-band, African Drum Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Combo Jazz Groups, Gamelan Orchestra, Afro-Cuban Ensembles, and Mallet Ensembles. He also performed in freelance rock, jazz, jam, and improvisational groups. Mike began playing at age 7 on both piano and drums and started performing at age 14. For beginning students I start with Bastian Piano series. It has 4 books including piano, performance, technique and theory, which helps the student to have a full comprehension of piano playing. I will test students and then select a level to start. Once they complete the highest level, I will introduce solo repertoires and Hanon and Carl Czerny to enhence their skills. My teaching experience dates back to high school when I taught lessons during my senior year. I had a very solid foundation in the basics of breathing which has served me well. I believe in emphasizing the basics and a regular practice schedule to get the most out of the flute.
