My student, no matter what age, starts with light vocalizing, lip trills, humming etc. for young students I usually pick a light song and work on basics using the song as an exercise. For beginning students, we work on breathing and different warm up techniques. Once the student has progressed we will then start solo repertories for different genres. I also work on bridging the vocal registers through mindful vowel manipulation and plenty, PLENTY of support. For the advanced singer, the instruction can be guided on helping through a piece of repertoire, particular vocalizations or ornaments and the like. My teaching style is based on traditional classical approach of Russian Piano teaching method. For younger, beginner level student lessons are structured around different activities and games (for very young students) to learn notes reading and rhythm. For intermediate and more advanced students each lesson starts with a warm up, of scales, arpeggios, etudes or other technical pieces. After that we move onto working on individual pieces of music.
