BA, Bethune Cookman University, Music Technology MM. Florida International University, Music Production and Management
I am a very unique individual with the love and passion for music. I am a proud product of the urban neighborhood of Miami Fl. I was fortune enough to be introduced to music at an early age which stuck with me since. With music I received a full music scholarship to a Historically Black College and University, Bethune Cookman University. Being in a college band we use to travel a lot and I was exposed to all different kinds of music. I was fortune enough to not be another statistic in the Miami urban area. I was lucky enough to make it out of that rough neighborhood and earn a college degree. Music saved my life.
My experience with doing private lessons started when my last year at Bethune Cookman to earn a little extra cash in my pocket. I started out teaching beginning elementary students which sharpened up my skills for basic knowledge of the saxophone. As time progressed I started to teach intermediate student so that they can develop the tone and basic technique. Once I graduated from Bethune Cookman I went back to my old high school and volunteered in the music department. I started giving kids music lessons that couldn't afford it, and really wanted to become a better musician.
For my beginning students i will start them off with the Rubank series of books for beginners. This will teach them basic tone and basic technique. After that I will continue to using the Rubank series for intermediate and advance volume 1. After that I will switch to the Hite Etude books Volume 1 and 2 these book will go into more depth with the tone and the technique. After that depending on how well the student response to the books I will then introduce solo repertoire appropriate for the their first recital performance.
The most rewarding experience is to see students passion for music and their instrument. With me being the students private instructor I want to enhance that passion by giving them a structured lesson and setting up goal for them each week. Once these goals are met they will receive an award for their hard work. Also I want to relate to my students and stir up their interested besides music. With their interest I will incorporate that into their lesson so that they can better understand the music and will be more eager to learn. Each week they will be given assignment that they have to complete for the next time we meet, this will ensure me that they student is working outside of the lesson.
