I began teaching guitar a little bit in high school. Then after college began teaching more and more and my experience grew. While obtaining my master's my focus was on different, unique strategies of teaching. I've taught roughly the ages from 5 up to late 60s. As aforementioned, every student is different. What inspires one particular student may not inspire another. I find it important to establish early on what motivates the student, and incorporate that into every lesson in some facet. Along with the lesson, I also make it a point to establish and encourage consistent practice routines that make practicing the instrument more rewarding and less monotonous. Once the student has grasped a good level of fundamentals, I begin to introduce level appropriate solo repertoire pieces not only of my choosing, but of the students choosing as well.
