For entry level students such as children, I will teach them out of a method book to get them started. They will learn all the fundamentals the proper way to hold the instrument and tuning. And once they have improved to the point where have the ability to learn songs they will be taught the songs they will love to play. I feel they aren't learning from someone's book and they could do that with just the book, without me. If each of us learned from the same book we would all be playing the same music! They are here because they want to be shown. The last thing I want for my students is to feel burdened by bookwork while learning the guitar.
