I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, I also ask the students what do you want to achieve today in this lesson, or this week.  I implement materials of my own design mixed with songs of the students choosong and tastes, and typically have them up and playing a song or two that they like in a couple of lessons.  All ages, styles, and expereince levels are welcome. For reading,  I like to use a combination of notation, tabs and chord diagrams.  And while I dont absolutely insist that the student learn to read notation, I do strongly encourage it. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for violin students and piano adventures for piano students. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I am a high-energy, working professional singer with 15+ years of performance experience and 10+ years of vocal teaching/coaching at your service! I received a Masters of Music in Voice from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and a Bachelors of Music from DePauw University. Classically trained and now singing as the female lead of a regional wedding band 2-5 nights a week. During my time at DePauw, I spent time in China singing with a chamber choir, a summer singing with an opera company in Novafeltria, Italy, and a semester studying at the conservatory in Milan, Italy. I have played the violin since I was 8 years old in school orchestras and small ensembles. I have also learned Irish traditional music in Ireland, from the Irish in music sessions and in more formal school settings. I spent 9 months there obtaining a Masters in Ethnomusicology.
