My preferred methodology uses the Alfred series books, as well as the Faber Piano Adventure series as supplemental material. I use a combination of note names and intervals to teach reading skills. I also like to incorporate theory into every lesson. From there, I usually focus on fundamentals while I try and figure out where they are as a player and cater my instruction to what I discover.
