Hello! My name is Freddy, and I am a professional trombonist and composer from New York City. To tell you a bit about myself, I graduated Berklee College of Music with a Master's in Film Scoring ('15). I also recently finished touring with Grammy award winning artist Alejandro Sanz, and am currently working at SkyMuse Studios in Seattle, WA, under the tutelage of Ron Jones (Family Guy, Star Trek: Next Generation, DuckTales). I am in my late 40's, married, and the father of a crazy 9-year-old daughter. I started studying music on piano at the age of five with my mother (also a musician). I move from piano to alto sax, and continued to play it through to college, later switching to tenor. At age twelve, I started playing electric bass and have continued up to the present day. I started on acoustic bass at fifteen, and guitar when I was 30 years old. Read More

And I definitely see music as being a hugely sacred and spiritual act that humans have been doing forever, and not just something that's taught in schools and done to win competitions or have careers, so I can relate to people's emotional connections to music and explore that side as well. Being able to express musically is a joy, and so my approach is to foster an engagement with it, and focus on your unique relationship with music, rather than forcing people to follow obligatory structures. Instruments: Piano Trumpet Trombone

For beginning brass players I generally start out with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements series of books. After going through that, with some other material on the side, such as performance pieces, etc, they would progress to the Arban book (at around high school age for the student who began in sixth grade, as I did). For piano, I much prefer starting out with basic fundamentals, but not to any specific method, in contrast to brass. Read More

In college, I informally taught guitar lessons to friends and other colleagues, but now am looking for more students to share my love for music and guitar with. I have experience working with middle schoolers doing some student teaching through the university. I find that students with a goal of songs to learn is best for motivation and practice. Without that motivation it can be hard to put the time in and may seem tedious. (Which playing music should not always be!) Practicing may seem like a chore at times but finding out ways to approach it as a game can make it more worthwhile and affective. Read More

My methods are not unusual, although I am a bit. Based on the the students experience and ability, or lack thereof, I'll make suggestions about what music to get. Often they already have music that will work, to which I will add developemental studies of various sorts. For example, I like Bartok's Mikrocosmos which he wrote to teach is nine year old son to play piano. Many things can be learned with no book at all, but reading music is also important. Read More

I like working with students in a way where our love of music is the center of our attention, as such musicality is always the goal. For beginner students who’d like to sight-read, I like to start with the Alfred Modern Guitar Method 1 and supplement that with the Mel Bay Modern Guitar Method, Grade 1, or Frederick Noad’s Solo Guitar 1 if we’re learning classical guitar. Alternatively, if the student wishes to take a route in which he/she does not sight-read musical notation, I like to start with basic picking technique, proper guitar positioning, reading tabs and chord diagrams. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm.
