I was given the opportunity to work as a vocal consultant at the middle school level in 2016 and coached the students one-on-one on their region competition pieces. When it comes to children, I believe that structure is necessary. So, I usually assign arrangements from a book based on their skill level. In most cases, I use Hal Leonard books and move chronologically from beginner and onward. As students progress, I tend to shift more towards fundamental skills, like how to properly pick certain songs, how scales work, and how to build relevant chords. I like to move through each lesson at a pace that is comfortable for the students. I love to build lessons that students are going to be motivated for by building lessons for their specific need and interest. My experience as a music teacher has been simply giving beginner lessons to friends on the violin, or giving others a few lessons on music theory and application in piano and accordion. I have a deep love for learning and progression, both in myself and in others, and so I enjoy even the tedious moments of a student's progression as a musician. My name is Jenna G and I am currently a senior at Texas AM University (Whoop!). Music has been an important part of my life since I started playing piano in 2005. Clarinet became my primary instrument when I started band in middle school, and since then I have had incredible experiences both in teaching music and with performing. I am currently the principal clarinetist in the Texas AM Wind Symphony, but I have also had the privilege to play with the Texas All-State Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017 at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention, with the AM Wind Symphony at Midwest in Chicago in 2019.
