Integrating the principles of moving the wrist, arm, and elbow fluidly ahead of the hand to produce even tone and clear voicing, has helped my students overcome technical challenges with greater ease. I was given the opportunity to work as a vocal consultant at the middle school level in 2016 and coached the students one-on-one on their region competition pieces. The following year, I taught private voice lessons of which most were beginning students. Clarinet became my primary instrument when I started band in middle school, and since then I have had incredible experiences both in teaching music and with performing. When it comes to children, I believe that structure is necessary. So, I usually assign arrangements from a book based on their skill level. In most cases, I use Hal Leonard books and move chronologically from beginner and onward. As students progress, I tend to shift more towards fundamental skills, like how to properly pick certain songs, how scales work, and how to build relevant chords.
