I also incorporate Fabers Music Adventures into the lessons. As the student progresses, I begin to introduce pieces appropriate for their levels and tastes. Each student learns and progresses individually and I take that into account when suggesting repertoire for them. I assisted in teaching students from underprivileged school districts by taking them to their classes, encouraging them to play/sing along, and perform for them as well. I usually take the first lesson to gauge what the student wants from learning their specific instrument. If they want to learn a specific song, if they want to get better at a certain genre, or if they just want something to do as a hobby! I believe it is counterproductive to force a certain system or lesson series that the student is not interested in. One of the amazing things about music instruction is it allows people (especially younger students) to learn the process of incremental goal setting and achievement for long term success.
