For beginner students I usually begin with listening exercises. We will listen to music and talk about what the drummer is doing, and how we can de-construct that. I come from a very musical family and started piano at five years old. Since then, my accomplishments include an Honorable Mention at the Korea Times Youth Music Competition. I have performed in two solo recitals and have performed biannually with the Beverly Hills Chamber Orchestra. I have participated in the Frederic Chopin Felix Mendelssohn Minifest 2005 and have regularly performed at the Colburn School of Performing Arts from 2003 - 2008. I try to get the student into actual repertoire as quickly as possible and like to use familiar folk tunes as a gateway to more traditional classical music. From there, I develop a personalized syllabus for the student based in their preferences, strengths and weaknesses.
