For absolute beginners who are children, I will use a method book, such as the Hal Leonard Guitar Method. I help them through the book, supplementing with thier favorite songs and excercises that allow them to play along with ease. For older students, I have a discussion about what they would like to accomplish and set up a general plan. For every lesson, of all ages, I incorporate five categories: Scales, chords, arpeggios, repertoire, and improvisation. Read More

I try to find out what inspires students most to learn singing. This gives me a clearer picture of what skills they wish to attain and I can gently push them toward their goals. I give positive encouragement and clear constructive feedback, so that my students can develop their ear and abilities to self-correct as time goes by. Many things go un-noticed until a voice specialist can point it out. Read More

I am motivated to foster a fun lesson environemnt. I loved lessons growing up, and now enjoy the joys of teaching all ages. At my home studio, I teach voice piano and acting lessons to students of all ages. The Twin Cities fasters a rich and diverse musical community. My favorite part about teaching is watching my students progress. Nothing is better than seeing the progress one makes after a given time. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. Setting goals for themselves can work well but there is no need to rush anything. Learning takes time and especially learning an instrument. Words of affirmation when acknowledging a students accomplishment(s) helps students desire to continue to progress and make them eager to keep on learning. Read More

For beginning students, I generally start with the Accent on Achievment book series and spend the first few lessons assessing and addressing the important fundamentals of the students' particular instrument. After working out of the book for an apropriate amount of time, I introduce solo repertiore from both pop and classical genres. I want my students to learn, but I want them to have fun and enjoy what they are learning. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Tuba
I do not have a beginning method book that I prefer, so I typically use a student's band method book for early lessons. For advanced students I prefer the Bordogni/Rochut etude book and the Blazhevich clef studies, along with a solo. I use scales with students of any level, and expect for students to eventually have all the major and minor scales memorized. Read More
