The first step is to build a foundation, a base that all musical ability will be built on. This core will be built of fundamental elements. (This step is fun because you are able to play your instrument.) Once a foundation is created all newly learned material will add on to that base foundation. This means if you learn new material or go off on your on in any direction you will always have this musical foundation that all of your musical learning will be added to. (This step is really exciting, and leads you to new musical elements and new ideas.) Next you begin to learn musical techniques. Read More

For the young students who are just starting out in vocal lessons I like to recommend starting with the proper breathing techniques and moving in to singing from the diaphragm and more experienced techniques will follow after that. After we have touched on those techniques we will move in to the performance portion of the lessons and how to connect with the song and then being able to portray the message of the song clearly and efficiently to the audience so that they can connect to the emotions that are coming from the song. For Beginners I focus on the fundamentals: instrument skills, posture, bow hold, left-hand placement, and how to produce a sound. I use a lot of repetition and review to build muscle memory, and we often learn some music by ear until that memory forms. Students may learn by ear with the bow or start reading music while plucking, but I try to introduce the bow as soon as possibleafter all, its the fun part! Read More

I prefer an individualized, tailored teaching method. Your passion and interest should inspire your learning. I see my job as then taking that passion and working to grow and develop it through specifically designed lessons and practice routines, personalized to you as the student. I strongly believe the most important aspect of learning is fostering a love for your instrument. Utilizing my strong background in theory and performance, I focus on various elements of instrumentation and technique combined with a foundation in theory to produce well-rounded, capable musicians. From 2006 to 2010 I sat first chair in the symphonic orchestra at Lees Summit West High School (Lees Summit, MO) and was even a member of the Missouri All-State Orchestra all four years. From 2011 to 2014 I earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Production at the McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul, MN. Since then I have had the pleasure of teaching many guitar and bass students of all ages and experience levels, and I hope to continue to do so while I am not composing! Read More

Lively and Encouraging! Music is tough and can be very stressful! I stay upbeat and optimistic. It is important that a student is aware that practice and progress is NOT easy and it WILL be frustrating and aggravating. It is how you deal with that frustration that makes the player great! I want my students to know that I will always be a reliable source of knowledge and that they can always depend on me when they can't seem to master a certain skill or technique. Read More

I was also able to cadet teach second grade music for my entire senior year. On top of the education classes that I was required to take in college, I began taking on a couple of voice students to jump start my career as a music teacher. I now teach fifth grade general music and I enjoy every second of it. I believe that learning should be fun and motivating in order to be successful and that is the biggest output that I would like for my voice students. Read More
