If a student wants to work on composing, that will be the focus. If the student wants to work on sight-reading, we'll focus on that. I believe in a student learning to hear music and think for themselves. Through ear training, creativity, and learning "how" music works, the goal is to get each student to not need a teacher to learn their instrument, but want a teacher so they may become their best version of it. I desire for the student to learn as much about themselves as they do their instrument. I believe that piano and voice are conduits for expression of emotion and thought and are extremely beneficial in helping students find confidence and awareness. My main motto is that EVERYONE can make music and so I encourage all types of people to learn at my studio. Music and performance as a profession will only last if the student has passion for it so I try to encourage each student to discover why they want to pursue music throughout lessons. Read More

I have been a Young Artist with Cedar Rapids Opera Theater, playing the role of Butch in Frankenboy. While in graduate school, I sang the roles of Betto di Signa in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Count Paris in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, and John Brooke in Adamo’s Little Women, all with IU Opera Theater. I had the opportunity to create the role of Almeron Dickinson in Tim Noble’s workshop for his new musical, Alamo. Read More

I want to give all my students a background in classical music to prepare them for possible further education in music and give them confidence among classically-trained musicians. I also want my curriculum to include non-classical musical styles that each particular student enjoys and relates to.
