I currently teach out of my home studio and I have been a guitar teacher on electric guitar,acoustic and bass guitar for 29 years. I teach all styles, rock,blues,jazz,classical,funk,r and b,country and have taught all age groups from beginners to advanced. I also do guitar repair, complete setups,and custom guitar builds.I started teaching guitar because I want to share the gifts God has given me,and I enjoy sharing music both live performance and teaching.I try to make learning fun,easy, and eventually would like to see students ability to teach themselves.I create lessons based on an individual basis so people get to learn how to play the kind of music they enjoy best. I create my own custom lesson plans based on the needs and goals of each student. Usually, when a student first comes to my studio I listen to them sing a series of exercises and then a song so that I can get a good idea of where they are in their vocal development. I usually begin teaching fundamentals of breath and posture and resonant space in the first few lessons, but then build upon that with specific exercises and repertoire that fits each student's needs. I will use what I learned at the University of Arkansas in my teaching methods and approach the guitar in a classical sense, meaning properly learning chords, scales, arpeggios and so on. I will have books that the student will learn songs and techniques from depending on the direction they want to go musically. I earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in 2008 and 2009 in Euphonium Performance and Music Education from the University of North Texas while studying with the renowned Dr. Brian Bowman. While there, I advanced to the final round of a United States Navy Band audition. From 2010-2019, I served as a band director in three different school districts in Texas; now I teach private lessons full-time in the North Dallas area.
