For all of my students, I find out what they are interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly. I typically start with the Piano Adventures series and my own compositions. Once my students understand the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance or competition. All of my students get a complete musical education by learning theory, performance, and music history. I have lead others and taught them before ever having my own classroom as a leader in High School and College. It has greatly pleased me that my students have had many accomplishments in many groups. These vary from various Honors Bands, the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra, and many High Valued Scholarships. Skills are taught in a sequential way so all students can feel successful. I teach students how to practice so that each student learns how to accomplish their goals. Growing up I’ve had a variety of coaches, one thing I noticed is that I was always lost enameled by the teachers that nurtured my creativity. Many times there are music teachers that only teach what they like and what they know. My students can expect to expand their versatility but as a smaller portion of the overall focus. My methods and practice is very student centered. It is my job whether the student is aware of what they want to learn to find out what they are most passionate about and nurture that to grow. When I was offered a gig as Billy Joe Royals guitarist it was back on the road. I've also done road work with such notables as The Classics IV and Archie Bell. After the tours I opened a recording studio and for many years I played on many artists' original songs playing guitar, keyboard and bass guitar as needed, as well as did the engineering on the tracks. He and I performed weekly during our time at GA State U. jazz dept. from the jazz department, as well as many stadium arena shows w Zac and the guys! From there I met the leaders of the Yacht Rock Revue and went on to perform w Yacht Rock Schooner (still perform with regularly) and later Electric Ave! All of which are “high-level”, professional, touring festival bands.
