Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
My teaching experiences began in college as a sectional leader in my marching band. During my final semester of college I began working at a local music store as a private saxophone instructor. Later in 2006, I started also working with a local high school marching band. These were some of the happiest moments of my life as I got to watch my students grow in their music. Currently I am a band leader of a popular group called Furioso. Read More
Instruments: Guitar
I started teaching at an Academy of Music in Kokomo, IN, where my instructor, Gary, felt like I was experienced enough to start giving lessons. I was a little nervous about it at first, but once I got started with my first student, I realized I had a lot of fun teaching! Ever since then, I would teach friends who wanted to learn and they would recommend me to people they know, and I just all around enjoyed it. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
For beginning students, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has a solid foundation on fundamentals, I begin to increase the rigor of the work. Each student is different, so I try to personalize their lessons. I like for every student to have at least one solo piece to be working on. I always encourage the student to work towards a recital or even a simple solo performance in their own home. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I graduated in 2014 from Indiana University with a Master of Music in Piano Performance. I have over 10 years of teaching experience at both the precollege and college level. My passion for music lies in both teaching and performing. Read More
Instruments: Violin
For beginning students, I usually teach with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books starting with book 1 to book 3. Once they are comfortable, and progression is recognized, I will introduce Suzuki Violin School. Not only do I solely focus on the music, I give students hand and bow exercises they can do during lessons or while just sitting at home watching TV. I also recommend that my students practice in the bathroom while at home because of the natural acoustics it provides. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet Trombone Recorder Euphonium
With all of my students I am kind, patient, gentle, humorous, encouraging, and positive with my feedback. Students regularly give feedback on the music they are making, as well as any new ways they think I might be helpful to them. I use Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory to help inform me of the students learning style. My goal is to nurture each students musical process. I support whatever pace students choose to employ, and tailor my instruction to their needs and wants. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
After carefully assessing each of my students, and determining whether or not he or she are beginners, intermediate or advanced, I start them in the lesson book that is according to the level they are at. I teach from Alfred's Piano Course, but if my student has a piano book already, it is not a problem to teach from that series. Once my student has progressed and has a strong understanding of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire for their recitals and personal interest. Read More
