Instruments: Piano Guitar
I started teaching private piano lessons to all ages and abilities when I was in college. I have experience with beginner level students ages 5-adult and intermediate level students ages 6-14. I have experience teaching traditional classical piano (reading sheet music), as well as pop piano (reading lead sheets). I've had the privilege of studying under several different piano professors and teachers in the past 15 years. I draw on their teaching styles, as well as my own experience in teaching. Read More
Instruments: Piano Music Keyboard
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who love working with students and sharing my love love of music. I started playing classical piano since I was four. In 2009, I graduated from Tianjin Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Arts in Keyboards Performance. In 2017, I graduated from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies (Jazz Piano), and in 2019, I graduated from IU with a Master of Science degree in Music Education, along with Indiana K-12 General and Instrumental Music teaching certificate. Instruments: Drums
This is the most difficult part of drumming. If I can teach a student this, then I can teach them anything. The advanced that can already hold a steady beat, I like to develop runs and fills on the drums. I can take them into a deeper understanding of how fills can take a song to the next level. Regardless of the skill level, every session will be well worth the time because they will be taking leaps toward becoming an accomplished, advanced drummer. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet
I cater my teaching and methods to each individual student and his/her needs and goals. For beginners, I often use Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements. After progressing past that, the Rubank books and Hite etudes work for many students. Starting around 8th grade, I introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their level. During lessons, I always have students work on some form of scale, sight-reading, and ear training. I have several duet books (and a Disney book!) that students love to sight-read from. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I have been teaching the flute for many years, dating back to my undergraduate college days. I taught several students that were looking to audition at the school I was at and needed additional help. I have also taught at a summer flute day camp in Michigan for 7 years, working with middle school, high school, and adult students. I currently teach beginning through high school flute students in Pendleton. Having worked with a variety of levels of students, I have a broad perspective of what students need and am flexible as far as my teaching style for each individual student. Read More
Instruments: Violin
Most of the work that I have had the privilige of delving into have been masterclasses with individuals trying my very best to incorporate aspects of what I have learned from my time with Don Weilerstein who I consider to be a major mentor figure to me in development both as a musician and a person. As an avid practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism, I have often to my ecstatic wonderment found patterned sychronocities between this sort of brilliant visceral teaching various aspects of Tibetan Buddhism,(particularly the practice of Shamatha and elements of Visualisation), Eastern Energetic practices and spacial/temporal awareness—playing with various methods of getting out of the body to become the rhythm and structure a phrase. Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Drums Bass Guitar
My teaching experience with guitar goes back to about age 14, when I was understanding and advancing faster than others around me or someone would ask me for advice or help. I never had the chance nor opportunity to advance my studies to get a degree. Thoughout all these years it has been shown that some gifts are certainly not to be taken advantage of. Read More
